For cybersecurity teams, finding software vulnerabilities can be slow and exhausting work.

Large programs may contain hundreds of thousands of lines of code. Security engineers often spend hours checking for weak points, reviewing alerts and deciding which problems could turn into real threats.

Microsoft is now trying to make that process easier with a new set of AI-powered security tools.

The package includes a security platform called Project Perception and a specialized model known as MAI-Cyber-1-Flash. Unlike a general-purpose chatbot, the model is designed to analyze code, identify suspicious areas and help security teams investigate possible vulnerabilities.

The idea is relatively simple. Smaller, faster models handle routine checks, while more difficult cases are passed to more powerful systems and human experts. Microsoft says this approach could help companies save time and reduce the cost of using AI for cybersecurity.

The company says MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, working alongside GPT-5.4, scored 95.95% in the CyberGym security benchmark, outperforming some competing platforms. Microsoft has also said that an earlier multi-model system helped researchers uncover 16 vulnerabilities in Windows-related components.

Still, strong test results do not guarantee perfect performance in the real world.

Company software is often complex, and AI tools can produce false alarms or miss important issues. For systems that handle sensitive data or critical operations, experienced security professionals will still need to review the findings and make the final decisions.

For engineers, the biggest benefit may not be replacing people. It may be taking over the repetitive work, so security teams can focus on the problems that require judgment, experience and a deeper understanding of risk.

Microsoft plans to make the tools available to selected customers first. As other technology companies expand their own AI security products, cybersecurity is quickly becoming another major area of competition in the AI industry.
