xAI has introduced Build Mode, a new Grok feature that lets users create websites and simple apps by describing what they want in plain language.
A user can type a request such as “build a portfolio site” or “make a basic expense tracker,” and Grok will generate the code and show a working version inside the chat. Changes can also be made through follow-up instructions, including new features, layout adjustments and design updates.
Build Mode is designed for more than static web pages. According to xAI, it can also create small tools, games, dashboards and interactive applications. Users do not need to install development software or edit the code themselves.
Finished projects can be published through a grok.me link. Users can also connect their own custom domain, making it possible to turn a quick prototype into a public-facing website.
The feature could be useful for freelancers, small businesses and startup teams that need to test an idea without spending days building the first version. A local shop could make a simple landing page, while a job seeker could create an online résumé or portfolio.
Build Mode is still an early-stage product. A generated site may look polished while containing broken features, security flaws or unreliable code. Projects involving payments, user accounts or personal data will still need careful testing before they go live.
The feature is available to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers on the web, iOS and Android.
Build Mode does not remove the need for professional developers, especially for complex products. What it does change is the starting point: instead of writing code first, users can begin with an idea and see a working version within minutes.
