Before this update, sharing a Markdown file through WeChat could be inconvenient. The receiver might see a page full of symbols and plain text instead of a properly formatted document. If they were unfamiliar with the format, they often had to install another tool just to read it.
The new feature aims to make that process easier. Once opened in WeChat, a Markdown file can appear more like a regular document, with clear sections, readable text, and organized tables.
For people who use WeChat for work or study, the change could save small but frequent steps. A project plan, meeting notes, or a research outline can be shared and viewed directly in a conversation, without switching between different apps.
Some users who regularly work with Markdown have welcomed the change. One user said that sharing Markdown files used to require extra explanations because “not everyone knows how to open them.” Being able to view the files directly inside WeChat could make everyday communication smoother.
The feature is still being tested and is only available to a limited number of users. WeChat has not announced when it will become available to everyone.
